Carla Kirkwood who wrote the narrative for the NHI Billboard project remembers it all. We had the opportunity of meeting in Washington DC, in 2019 and talked expressly about the time of Donna’s murder and how it resonates with her own family, the historical experience of women and misogyny. Carla is still very emotionally moved and will never forget this tragedy. Her words “the book stirred up so many emotions concerning the case, do not think it is something any of us will ever forget”. She momentarily was in actual tears. She learned how courageous Donna was and still is deeply moved by her life and death. She works at the Library of Congress, spends time with her daughter and beloved grandchildren. We shared good conversation, laughs, tears and an overall collective empathy.
